Many years ago there was a class in Storvik hosted by Mistress Catherine Grace Fitzlewis on how to make doll clothes by hand. The theory was that if you made smaller versions of each piece of garb using the correct materials and techniques it would be less intimidating to make full sized garb. I never got around to making the full sized garb but I did make 4 dolls.
Each doll was a commercial blank, easily obtainable at big box craft stores like Michaels or AC Moore. I embroidered the faces and added the hair then made all the clothing.
The first one was a flemish doll which was actually a practice piece for my Mother's Christmas gift. The third was the Norse doll, which was followed by the Mary Tudor doll which was done as a commission piece. I have it on good authority that the little girl who received the Mary doll still treasures it 10 years later.
